At Colliver Dental Group, we are passionate about adopting proven technologies that help to add value to your experience with us. When we find a tool that is able to help us more accurately diagnose an issue in the early stages, we get excited! Early detection and accurate treatment allows us to save your teeth and money. Here are some of the most helpful pieces of technology that we have adopted into our practice.
Digital X-RaysX-rays are one of the most important tools in the medical and dental industries. They allow us to peer beyond the soft tissues of your mouth and see things we wouldn’t otherwise be able to see. With this ability to peer in between your teeth and at the bone of your jaw, we have the ability to see very small issues very easily. What does this mean? It means that with the help of X-rays we can find issues in your mouth while they are still in the very early and preventable stages, and then we can take steps to prevent them from getting bigger.
We use X-rays to detect issues like:
|•||Teeth at risk of impaction|
|•||Teeth that have not come in yet|
X-rays are obviously a very powerful tool in the field of dentistry but we use a form of X-ray, called digital X-rays. These are even more powerful and grant us an even more in-depth look at the inner workings of your mouth. Digital X-rays allow us to use 1/5th the amount of radiation that a traditional X-ray emits. This allows us to limit the amount of radiation that you are exposed to during an X-ray substantially.
Digital X-rays even allow us to communicate to you what’s going on in your mouth in a clearer fashion. Traditional X-rays were rather small and blurry, often requiring a certain amount of expertise to interpret. Digital X-rays are presented to us on a computer monitor that we can share with you minutes after they have been taken. The images are presented in clear, crisp high-definition and are easy to understand and interpret. This allows us to give you a much better idea about what is going on inside your mouth.
Images of your mouth are available to view instantly after being taken. Traditional X-ray machines required long wait times to fully develop and if they didn’t turn out properly had to be retaken. This process is avoided entirely with digital X-rays. We are even able to share the images easily with other providers who request your medical records, greatly reducing the wait times for record transfer.
Intraoral CameraX-rays give us a window into the inner workings of your mouth and allow us to share the images with you, but intraoral cameras allow us to share real-time video of your mouth with you. There is tremendous value in being able to see what we are talking about as we discuss it with you. This tool allows us to stream live video of your mouth to a screen in front of you so that you can see exactly what we are talking about.
UltraSonic ScalerThe ultrasonic scaler is a tool that you are probably already familiar with, even if you don’t know it yet. If you have ever heard a high pitched whistling sound while we are cleaning your teeth, that’s probably the ultrasonic scaler, hard at work.
The ultrasonic scaler uses ultrasonic vibrations to break up and wash away plaque and tartar that have built up in the crevices of your teeth. When plaque is allowed to build up on your teeth and isn’t washed away by brushing and flossing it will eventually harden into a substance called tartar. Tartar is impossible to remove with a tooth brush and floss and can do a lot of damage to your teeth.
When we remove the bacterial buildups on your teeth with the ultrasonic scaler, we use a water or antimicrobial rinse to help aid in the process.
